Pre-Ride Low Sugar, High Protein Breakfast

Pre-Ride Breakfast 5-15-14

What’s not to be charged about? Spring weather’s finally really here. Everyday I’m on the bike I see more green sprouting, more wildlife in fields and in the air, and even some wild things like the Grafton Upton Train cutting across Old Upton Road in Grafton. Cool!

Grafton Upton TrainThe Amgen Tour of California is underway (I’ve ridden that road but nowhere close to that speed – gorgeous!)

Amgen Tour of California 2014Already, my legs are after me, “C’mon, let’s lay down some work and get out on the road!” I’m listening…and obeying. The breakfast shown above was made with very little added sugar. I promise, more about low sugar soon.

The bowl below was filled with fresh mango, blackberries, nonfat plain Greek yogurt, a chopped date, sliced dried pineapple piece (no added sugar), a spoon of fresh whipped cream, and a shot of light coconut milk.

The toast is a new flaxseed bread I just tried for the first time – and like. I topped it with a spoon of cherry jam (yes, some added sugar, but not much – and I will put it to use on the road), dried cranberries (50% sugar reduced) and a new no added sugar muesli cereal.

Flaxseed Toast with Very Little Added Sugar in JamAs for the coffee: milk, a shot of whipped cream, and a dash of ground cinnamon. I used stevia in the whipped cream and am still off sugar in coffee.
