Here’s what a picture-perfect start to stage 10 of the Tour de France on Bastille Day – complete even with some kinda’ “smoke’s on!” fireworks on the side of the road – and a very fresh and flavorful breakfast looked like this morning.

But, wow, how things can turn around darn fast. Here’s how the race looked shortly after the start – pummeling rain – with the men facing a grueling day of steep climbs and descents in the Vosges mountains. And then there’s my mis-fire-works in the kitchen last night with my first ever cherry pancake splat on the floor.

The bright side to the story: the men of the Tour de France will see this day through and get a rest day tomorrow. As for my event last night, it happened, I didn’t even swear, and nothing went to waste.
